We're going to hold the key in the run position and turn it to the start position, activating the diesel engine glow plugs. The key should remain in this position until the glow plug light goes out. On new cars, push-button start and the glow plugs cycle automatically before the car starts.

Trucks older than 5 years are equipped with a keyed ignition with the glow plug activated in the "accessory" key position. When the key is in this position and the engine is cold, the glow plug signal light will illuminate until the glow plugs are heated and the engine is ready to start.
